STILL HERE TEAM TAKES PINNACLE SPORTS CHRISTMAS 2011 3-ON-3

Thanks to our friends at Pinnacle Sports for sponsoring the Christmas 2011 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament on December 28th.

Congratulations to this year's champions (see attached l-to-r) Ben Chojnacki, Brett High, Will Young.

We were proud of the fact that STILL HERE was well represented with three squads. Special kudos to the team of Paul Stallings, John Takacs, Rick Burgess. With an average age of 114 they played three straight games against two separate teams consisting of guys whose voices have not yet changed. Despite that rigorous schedule the old boys took two out of three games and came within a bucket of getting into the final.

Our other squad of Rick Noland, Kurt Miller, Bob Campbell, Mark Bruner did well in Game One but then had to play the eventual champions twice in a row. We firmly believe that for a span of 1.3 seconds we had them worried. Never-the-less, we didn't back down against the young thugs and the nice thing about two STILL HERE teams playing each other is that STILL HERE always wins!

STILL HERE BASKETBALL 3-ON-3 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT RAISES MORE THAN $4,000 FOR CHARITY!

On October  15, STILL HERE BASKETBALL, INC., a charitable 501 (3) (c) organization dedicated to basketball and brotherhood, sponsored a 3-on-3 basketball tournament at Pinnacle Sports center, Medina. The event raised more than $4,000 thanks to the participation of 11 teams and numerous local sponsors. Proceeds will be used to benefit local youth basketball players, the American Cancer Society, and the Still Here Basketball, Inc. benevolent fund.

For the second straight year the tournament was won by TEAM WICKEY sponsored by Bert Wickey of Medina and comprised of Adam Feeks (captain), Tony Stockman, Nate Holley and J.T. Sturm, all of Medina; plus Trey Stross of Avon Lake.

The Bob Schulte “Nothing Less Than The Best” trophy went to Ed Clark of Ravenna who, at the age of 69 years, was the oldest player in the tournament and demonstrated a level of energy and determination that earned the respect of all involved. The award, named for Bob Schulte of Medina, a longtime Still Here basketball player who died of leukemia several years ago, is given in recognition of an unselfish team spirit and a commitment to play the game with uncompromised competitiveness combined with a sense of fairness and integrity.
